The exhibition
"Stories from the Vacuum Cleaner"
created within the project "Serbia
and Kosovo:Intercultural
Icebreakers", supported by the
Embassy of the Federal Republic of
Germany in Belgrade and the Swiss
Embassy in Belgrade, opened in Novi
Sad.
The Novi Sad
exhibition opened at the LAB
Cultural Center, co-founded by
Stanislav Drča, who is a participant
in one of the previous generations
of Icebreakers. Part of the
inspiration for starting an
independent and self-sustaining
cultural center came just when
visiting a similar center in
Priština.
The exhibition was
opened by project coordinator Luka
Božović of the Helsinki Committee
for Human Rights in Serbia,
recalling the importance of
connecting young artists and
building new good neighborly
relations. He gave the floor to
Alexandra Đurić Bosnić, who is a
longtime lecturer in the first part
of the project. She talked about the
subversiveness of art, and what its
reach is. Đurić Bosnić said that it
is important that initiatives such
as these exist because they can
grow, become dominant or mainstream
by conquering the space and
spreading the message in
perspective, leading to social
catharsis.
The artist Pajtim
Paša who presented the exhibition
said that he is not a person who
likes to talk too much about
exhibitions and exhibits because he
thinks art should tell a story
regardless of the explanation.
Still, he shared with the attendees
the experience of working with other
artists and why he sees the
importance of overcoming conflicts
from the past.
