HOPE - HOLISTIC RADICALISATION PREVENTION INITIATIVE

The role of criminal justice in P/CVE in the Balkans

A transnational thematic workshop (TTW) entitled "Preventing Radicalization and Violent Extremism in the Balkans - The Role of the Criminal Environment", organized within the HOPE project (Holistic Initiative for the Prevention of Radicalization), was held online on November 19, 2021.

This was the first of eight transnational thematic workshops targeting the Balkan countries involved in the project consortium, namely Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria and Slovenia.

Presentation of Dorin Muresan, expert of the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA), provided a comprehensive historical perspective on P/CVE in the Balkans and introduced 70 participants to interesting practical examples of initiatives implemented in this area.

Josep GarcĂa Coll from the Euro-Arab Foundation for Higher Studies (FUNDEA) presented a relevant analysis of facts and figures regarding P/CVE in the Southeastern Europe region.

The event ended with a workshop which actively engaged participants and promoted pertinent and thought-provoking debates on the implementation of local/regional P/CVE initiatives.
