Helsinki Committee
for Human Rights in Serbia is
inviting young artists as well as
those who are interested in arts and
activism to apply to participation
in program «Serbia and Kosovo -
Intercultural Icebreakers».
The program
gathers 16 young people from Serbia
and Kosovo who are active in the
area of culture and art or have
interested in this. Within the
program they will attend two
seminars. The first is the study
visit that will last for nine days
and during that period they will
stay in Belgrade and Prishtina and
visit Novi Sad and Prizren. During
the second seminar that will last
for five days, the group will
develop an exhibition or the public
event that will be organized in two
cities. The type of the event will
depend out of the profile of
participants.
Helsinki Committee
wants to contribute to renewal of
earlier established relations by the
cultural exchange, but also to
creation of new networks of young
people, academic and art groups,
media and civil society of Serbia
and Kosovo. The idea is to bring
participants from Serbia and Kosovo
to topics such as: human rights
culture, inter / multiculturalism,
conflict resolution through art and
popular culture, art as a tool for
social change, culture of
resistance, etc.
Besides lectures
about these topics, the participants
will attend the workshops during
which they will develop different
activities or campaigns (such as
short plays, films, exhibitions, and
similar) with the goal of promotion
of respect, understanding and
tolerance. This way, the program
affirms the young artists from both
societies that will contribute the
breaking of stereotypes and
prejudices trough their joint work.
They will also affect on spreading
the good neighbor relations of
Kosovo and Serbia.
During the study
visit the participants will have an
opportunity to visit different
institutions and organizations in
Belgrade, Pristina, Novi Sad and
Prizren so they can meet with the
existing programs in art and culture
as well as some of the cooperation
from the past. Also, they will visit
different cultural events that will
happen during the seminars.
The organizers
will cover all costs of
accommodation, food, travel, working
material, and visits to cultural
events for all participants of the
seminar.
The profile of
the participants:
The program is
designed for young people from
Serbia and Kosovo who:
Are 18 to 30
years old
Are active in
the area of arts and culture
Study, or hold
a degree in culture or arts, or
other faculties in the area of
history of art, literature,
sociology, and other related fields
of studies
Are motivated
to gain knowledge about the culture
of resistance, interculturalism,
multiculturalism, human rights
culture, etc.
Want to meet
and cooperate with colleagues from
Serbia and Kosovo
can
communicate in English
The first study
visit will be held from March 27 of
2019 to April 4 of 2019, and the
second seminar is planned for April
20 to 25 2019. Attendance at both
seminars is compulsory for all
participants.

As in the past, we
are targeting young people from
Serbia and Kosovo who are active
and/or interested in arts, culture
and media to participate in this
project. The seminar will start in
Belgrade featuring lectures, visits
to cultural institutions and public
sites. On the 4th day of seminar,
participants will visit Novi Sad and
its cultural and public
institutions. After returning to
Belgrade, all participants will
travel together to Pristina, and
continue the seminar in Kosovo.
There, participants will participate
in lectures and workshops provided
by experts from Kosovo, and visit
prominent educational and cultural
institutions in Pristina. On the 8th
day participants will visit Prizren,
a historical town in southern Kosovo
and meet representatives of local
media and culture organizations.
Project is
financed by the German Embassy in
Belgrade, and implemented by the
Helsinki Committee for Human Rights
in Serbia.
