A group of 40 young individuals from Serbia and
Albania have come up with a set of recommendations, combined into a
document called Voice of Youth, shaped within three days of
intensive work during the Human Rights Youth Forum held in August in
Tirana, Albania. The recommendations represent youth ideas for
improvement of regional youth co-operation, with a focus on human
rights education and empowerment of local communities and
institutions and will be addressing national, regional and
international stakeholders.
“In order to create an environment of equality and
solidarity, youth empowerment is essential – especially with regards
to topics of their direct concern, such as human rights and civic
education. Young people’s voice must be taken into account for the
benefit of our societies as a whole”, project coordinator Mila Lukic
underlines.
Voice of Youth covers topics such as: enhancement
of human rights education within school systems, enabling
inter-religious dialogue and advocacy of freedom of speech. Another
highlighted matter is the women empowerment through media campaigns
and awareness-raising. As immensely important, participants stressed
out the need to continue strengthening the Serbia-Albania youth
cooperation and the peace-building process throughout the region.
